With the tight 90 minute timescale, I roughed out the layout I wanted then set about creating the various parts and layers on Photoshop, before finalising the colours and composition. I hope the artwork portrays a sense of fun and excitement that I was looking for.
The imagery I explore is originally sourced from specific research, for example, mythologies, science and personal observations. Through a careful and spontaneous selection of these topics the research is processed through the means of drawing. I break down the complex research into playful illustrations that at times manifest themselves into repeat patterns becoming almost diagrammatic.
Daniel Abbott was born in Devon in 1982 and now lives and works in East London. He has exhibited work in London, New York, Gothenburg and Munich. The message I want my work to shout out is that life can be a harsh and unforgiving event, but when we are taken to dark or extreme places, humanity and beauty can be found in surprising locations and moving experiences.
Milly freeman is an illustrator who likes letterpress. screen-printing, pottery, textiles, gardens, nature, children’s picture books and playful, humorous illustration. Often she uses screen-printing and letterpress as she enjoys the unexpectedness printing can add to her work as well as the chance to experiment with colour. She also likes to include characters in absurd and sometimes impossible situations.
Graduated from Camberwell College of Arts Illustration in 2010 and currently working as a freelance illustrator in London. I create art to make people happy, I love to hear the chuckles of people when they see my work. I often use weird characters in my work, and love to make them do weird things. I try to work in various media, such as drawing, print, zine, animation, comic, 3D, etc.
I chose to illustrate a phrase “My heart is ravisht with delight” from Robert Burns 1788 poem “Auld Lang Syne” in response to the brief “Celebrating life, everyday, everywhere, responsibly”. The semi-incomprehesible nature of the poem coupled with it’s use as a mass utterance at New Year’s Eve give it an almost hymnal quality and one that resonates with the idea of joy and optimism whenever it is read aloud.

I wanted to convey of feeling of togetherness and to show the outstanding natural beauty in celebration of the world we live on. It is a beautiful place to be and we all have a responsibility to keep it that way. The structured and geometric composition reinforces the idea of responsibility, while the imagery and design elements work together to portray the tranquil beauty of earth.
